When I accepted the call to become minister at Kirkmichael with Straiton, it was with a profound sense of returning home. My great-grandparents had lived and worked on Blairquhan estate; my two great-aunts had been laid to rest in Straiton Churchyard; many family members had attended Straiton School; and my grandfather had been baptised in the Church I now serve. The long-standing family connections were already in place.
Through this website, may I offer you a warm and sincere welcome to our country kirk, and invite you to study our rich inheritance in the Christian name, or to come and worship with us in an open, welcoming Church family. The history of the sanctuary, with its striking artwork and craftsmanship, is well-documented in the following pages, not least the recent refurbishment, through which we seek to preserve our Church for the years to come.
Having withstood the turbulent centuries of Scottish history, as well as the more peaceful times, our Church remains at the heart of our community - a much-loved centre of Christian worship in a secular age, and a visible reminder of God's presence in a world where there is so much to distract us from Him.
We do hope that our website will give you some knowledge of who we are, and what we are doing, with our prayer that in perusing it, you will find the richest blessings of Almighty God that we have found within this holy place.
