Welcome

Welcome to the website of Straiton (St. Cuthbert's) Parish Church. We are part of the former Presbytery of Ayr, and now in the Presbytery of the South West, which was established on the 1st October 2022.

This is a special place of Christian worship and outreach, located in the charming 18th century village of Straiton, and surrounded by the beautiful countryside of South Ayrshire.

Straiton (St. Cuthbert's) Parish Church has occupied its present site for more than five hundred years.  As a congregation, we belong to the Church of Scotland, which is part of the one, holy, catholic or universal Church, Trinitarian in creed, Reformed in doctrine and Presbyterian in polity, worshipping one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, we warmly welcome you to this lovely house of prayer, and trust that you will be uplifted by the worship and inspired by its historic significance and architectural refinement.

As a national Church, the Church of Scotland acknowledges its distinctive call to provide the ordinances of the Christian religion to people in every part of the country through its territorial ministry. It is our prayer that those who come to this place, as pilgrim or tourist, will help maintain our Church for the present, and for generations to come.
OUR MINISTER
Our minister, the Rev. W. Gerald Jones, was born and brought up in Ayrshire.  Graduating with Honours in Arts and Divinity at the University of Glasgow, he was appointed Peter Marshall Scholar for one year at Princeton Theological Seminary, New Jersey, USA.

Thereafter, he served as Assistant Minister at Glasgow Cathedral, and was ordained by the Presbytery of Glasgow on 26th June 1984.  He was inducted to the linked charge of Kirkmichael with Straiton (St. Cuthbert's) on 23rd October 1985, and is now the longest-serving minister (continuously in one charge) in the former Presbytery of Ayr.
